All India IISU English Debate Competition

4th All India IISU English Debate organized

23rd February 2017: Jaipur: The Department of English of The IIS University has organized the 4th All India IISU English Debate on the topic “Women make for better women than men” at IIIM auditorium on Thursday. On the occasion, Ms. Kanta Ahuja, Former Vice-Chancellor, University of Rajasthan was the chairperson while IPS P.K.Tiwari, Ms. Rachana Singh, Journalist and Ms. Ruchi Bhargava Theatre Artisit were among the judges panel.

The university and colleges from across the country have participated in the debate. It has given the participants a national platform to express themselves and hone debating skills.

As soon as chairperson declared the debate open, the young participants put forth their views with full conviction and confidence.

Apeksha Tikkoo, a student from The IIS University while speaking in the favor of the topic said that there could be no better leader than a woman but she is taken as an epitome of weak and incompetent by the society. For everybody’s information, there is another side to it.

“Suppose, both woman and a man take part in a race. While woman is running with a heavy baggage of discrimination, sexism etc while a man is using his full force to leave behind his counterpart. Now, both of them reach the finish line at the same time, who would you declare the winner.” She asserted.

One of the contestants took to help of a research to speak in the house of the notion. She said that a research conducted by an online company, found out that companies lead by women perform better than companies lead by men.

On the other hand, the contestants who spoke against the notion were equally convincing. One of the contestants stated that our country needs a practical leader and not an emotional one.
Results were announced towards the end of the competition. Ms. Anupriya from Banasthali while speaking against the notion stood at third position while Ashi Goyal who spoke in against and Apeksha Tikkoo spoke in favor of the topic bagged second and first position respectively. Since winners were from the host team, so the team trophy went to Banasthali, Jaipur.
