Two days international chemistry conference concluded

End of make, use and dispose era and onset of reuse, refurbish, re and upcycle era: Padmashri Goverdhan Mehta

02nd February 2019: Jaipur: Two days international conference on “Recent Development in Chemical Research” organized by the department of Chemistry of the IIS (Deemed to be University) concluded on Saturday at IIIM auditorium.

Padmashri Prof. Goverdhan Mehta, Prof. Derek P. Gates, University of British Columbia, Canada and Prof. Dietrich Gudat, University of Stuttgart, Germany were the special guests on the occasion. Prof. Padmashri Goverdhan Mehtra delivered a popular lecture which was started with the evolution of chemistry – how it has changed from ‘utility science’ to ‘sustainable science’. He highlighted the term ‘circular chemistry’ and emphasized that there should be the end of make, use and dispose era and onset of reuse, refurbish, re and upcycle era. He also emphasized that inculcating ethics and cultural competency is important during learning process.

The objective of this conference is to provide a platform to researchers, academicians as well as industry professionals from all over the world to present their research results and development activities in chemical science. This conference also provided an opportunity to exchange new ideas and share experiences face to face with their colleagues and academic community to establish research relations and find global partners for future collaboration. Catalysts, organic synthesis, nanomaterials, polymer chemistry, food chemistry, bio-organic and green chemistry were some of the thrust areas of the conference.

The conference was held in seven technical sessions in which subject experts from the country as well as abroad took part and indulged in deliberations. Prof. K. C. Kumara Swami, University of Hyderabad, Prof. Gerhard Haegele, University of Dusseldorf, Germany, Prof. R. Murugavel, IIT, Mumbai, Prof. Anil Kumar, BITS Pilani were some of the invited speakers on the occasion.

Participation and best poster presentation awards were distributed to the research scholars and students in the valediction ceremony. In the review category, first position was bagged by Priyanshi Gupta, second and third position was secured by Sneha Srivastava and Mahima Singh respectively from IIS University.

In the research scholar category, Anna-Katharina Hansmann from Germany, Manish Kumar Mehra from BITS, Pilani and Meeta Bhati from Central University, Kishangarh received best poster award. While in PG Category, Anushri Rathore received the award and in UG Category, Yashasvi Yadav got the best poster award.
