National Conference on “The Treatment of Social and Environmental Issues through Art” concluded

Eco-aesthetics were discussed on the second day of the conference.

06th January 2018: Jaipur: A two days National Conference on “The Treatment of Social and Environmental Issues through Art” organized by the Department of Visual Arts of The IIS Deemed to be University concluded on Saturday.

The first session of second day of the conference based on “The Role of Arts in Social and Environmental Awareness” was chaired by Prof. Parul Dave Mukherji. In her presentation, Prof. Mukherji threw light on eco-aesthetics. She focused on sculptors’ workshop that took place in Ahmedabad in which the artists used old construction equipments and various objects that would have otherwise been scrapped off to create art.

According to Prof. Mukherji, eco-aesthetics offers a space for such a counter discourse to reflect on our current crisis, both political and artistic.

The last technical session of the conference was focused on “The Broader Context of Indian Art” and was chaired by Prof. Manjula Chaturvedi. Prof. Chaturvedi connected peace and Ananda with mythology, environment and Indian art. According to her, Kala has been always there with Parampura “Society”.

“Rasa theory and Natyashastra has been key to art and it became the world of art beyond our country as well,” she asserted.

One of the paper presenters, Abu Kalam Shamsuddin from Khulna University, Bangladesh discussed the thought and awareness towards the art and culture, especially for students at college level. In his study he found out that in South Asia, there is a lack of understanding about the cultural factors, which are directly connected to art.

This two days conference concluded with valediction ceremony in which certificates were given to the participants.
